ARTIST TO GIVE WORKSHOP USING RECYCLED MOVIE FILM
OJAI, CALIFORNIA, JANUARY 23, 2007: Nationally renowned fiber artist, Polly Harrison is coming to the Fibre Arts Design Studio in Ojai on February 3rd and 4th to teach a two day workshop combining basketry, weaving, and sculpting techniques using recycled movie film. Participants will complete several items including baskets, window mandalas and decorative sculptures made from discarded movie film.The workshop is open to the public and runs from 1 to 5 pm on both days. A reception is planned on Friday evening from 7 to 8:30 pm at the studio. Harrison will be giving a free demonstration class for teens and adults on Saturday morning from 10-11:30 am. The workshop costs $75 a day or both days for $140, scholarships are available. Fibre Arts Design Studio is located at 960 East Ojai Ave, in downtown Ojai. Harrison’s work has been included in major touring exhibitions throughout the US including Trashformations (organized by the Whatcom Museum in Bellingham, Washington) and Re-cycle, Re-use, Re-create, an arts America exhibition that traveled to eight African countries as a cultural presentation. Her work has been featured in major exhibitions and galleries around the country including the Jackson-Hartsfield International Airport, Atlanta, Georgia, Sag Harbour Film Festival, Banaker Gallery in San Francisco, Twinings Gallery in New York, Perimeter Gallery and the Textile Arts Center in Chicago, Colorado Film Festival, as well as galleries throughout Europe, South American and Africa.
